How we clean Acorn Terrace homes

Acorn Terrace is a neighborhood in Franklin, close to the town center. Most of the homes are small to medium single-family houses, with some small apartment buildings mixed in. A lot of them were built in the later part of the last century, so they are settled but not old. A handful are much older than that. In a newer house, a lot of the work is the carpet and the kitchen. Cooking grease settles on the range hood and the tops of the cabinets, and dust sticks to it. In an older house the work moves to the trim. Tall baseboards and old radiators hold dust where a quick wipe never reaches. Old wood floors need a mop that is damp, never wet, so water does not sit in the seams between the boards.

A standard cleaning covers the rooms you use every day and keeps a house in good shape between visits. A deep clean goes further, into the grime that builds up over months. Acorn Terrace seasons bring dirt inside

Franklin gets a real New England winter, and the roads and sidewalks around Acorn Terrace get salted from the first snow until spring. It is a walkable neighborhood, so a lot of that salt comes home on boots. When the snow melts off, it leaves a white film on the hardwood and tile near the door. That film dulls the finish, and the sand mixed into it scratches the floor a little more every time someone crosses it. We damp mop entry floors so the salt comes up instead of getting spread around.

From late fall until spring the windows stay shut, so the dust in a house has nowhere to go. If your heat is forced hot air, the system blows dust out of the vents and onto shelves and floors every time it runs. Radiators and baseboard heaters collect a gray layer along the top. That dust is part of the burning smell you notice the first time the heat comes on in the fall. On winter cleanings we dust the vents and the tops of the heaters along with everything else.

Spring has its own mess. Snow turns to mud at the doorstep. Once the windows open, tree pollen blows in through the screens and settles on the sills as yellow dust. Summer brings humidity. A bathroom that never fully dries grows a pink or black film along the grout and at the bottom of the shower curtain. We scrub it off. If it keeps coming back after every cleaning, the bathroom fan is usually not pulling out enough air.

We clean before you move in

Acorn Terrace has a mix of owners and renters, and rentals tend to change hands more often than owned houses do. When you move into a place someone just left, their dust is still in the cabinets and on top of the door frames. An empty room is much easier to clean than one stacked with boxes. The best time to call us is before the moving truck shows up, while every shelf and every corner is still easy to reach.
